Ethical Sourcing
We strive to provide the best ethically sourced resources to our community for all traditions and practices. Products we carry may be considered by some to be part of closed practices. We do not provide these products as an endorsement of their use by all, but instead trust our customers to make their own decisions as to what will best suit their practices and traditions.
A Note For ON ANIMAL PRODUCTS
While we wholeheartedly support those who prioritize a vegan lifestyle, not all our items are sourced with vegan principles in mind. We strive to purchase from crafters and companies that respect nature and wildlife. Some products contain feathers, leather, horn, bone, fossils, shells, or other components that are derived from animals; for those sourced by the crafters themselves, we aim to work with reputable sources who share our values.
A Note On Environmental Responsibility
We are committed to reducing waste and have been reusing and repurposing packing materials for over 18 years. This practice has prevented hundreds of pounds of cardboard, paper, foam chips, and other materials from ending up in landfills. This is one of the ways we demonstrate our commitment to environmental stewardship.
A Note On Ethical Sourcing Practices
The crystals, minerals, oils, resins, incenses, herbs, textiles, statuary, home decor items, and jewelry in our shop are sourced from suppliers who practice fair trade and ethical business practices. We ensure that every item comes from reputable sources that prioritize giving back to the earth and their communities. We use many of the products ourselves and are dedicated to sourcing from reliable and trustworthy suppliers.
A Note About Our Herbs and Smoke Cleansing Information
We are meticulous about sourcing our herbs from businesses who share our values and respect Mother Earth. We honor all faiths, traditions, and cultures, and offer a wide variety of dried herbs and herb bundles at reasonable prices. We partner with companies who ensure all their products are sustainably grown and responsibly harvested.
Regarding smoke cleansing, we acknowledge and honor the difference between smudging, a term referring to sacred rituals of burning plant medicines originated by various indigenous people of the Americas, and smoke cleansing. We offer information on smoke cleansing only and encourage those interested in traditional indigenous cultural practices to contact their local cultural center for more information.
White Sage
While we do source our white sage products from more than one supplier, our main supplier states:
“Our White Sage is grown in the dry hill areas of Southern California. […] All of our sages are ethically and sustainable [sic] harvested.”
Palo Santo
Our main supplier states:
“Our Palo Santo wood is 100% natural, no trees or forest are harmed to gather these sticks.”
Dream Catchers
Monague Native Crafts
“The business began as a mobile retail unit traveling from Pow-Wow to Pow-Wow throughout North America in the family van. During slow times the family sold to stores. When the demand from stores increased, it persuaded the family to set-up an office location in British Columbia. The needs of the retailers grew and a new direction was taken by the family in order to satisfy this demand – thus Monague Native Crafts was established as a wholesale business in 1982.
Without any formal business training, the owner, Sandi Monague Roy, developed the company while raising five daughters, two who have grown up in the company and are now an integral part of the business. The family is a member of the Beausoleil First Nations of Ontario (Ojibway).
The Governor General awarded Sandi Monague Roy with the “Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada.” Extensive traveling has given the family exposure to many different groups and cultures around the world, which has resulted in a keen family interest to share experiences and knowledge with other Developing Peoples and with our youth, our future leaders.
Monague Native Crafts’ dedicated team has developed the company to become the leading supplier of Canadian Native souvenirs and giftware items, offering the highest quality and superior customer service. All products are crafted by hand. The company gives hiring priority to First Nations People and Women in Development.”
